San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca
A nose of fuji apple and gardenia florals, makes way for an elegant, poised palate of seawater, sandalwood, bergamot oil, and pink peppercorn.
Soluro 1610 has a special place in our hearts: all the platitudes you hear about different mezcal (small batch! Family run! Tahona-pressed!) are actually true with this one. Founder Luis Humberto Lopez is a third-generation mezcalero; he's also a bartender and server here in LA. In 2023, he began bottling his family's juice and bringing it to the States.
Soluro 1610 is a family affair for the Lopez clan. Luis says his mother remembers working on the palenque with baby Luis strapped to her chest. The juice is 100% tahona press, proofed down with well water from a well dug by Luis' father and uncle. As Luis likes to say, the only machine used in making the mezcal is their family horse.
